What started as a happy celebration turned tragic on Wednesday outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first IPL trophy win. Sadly, 11 people died and over 30 were injured in a stampede-like situation near the stadium.

Many of the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including Vydehi and Bowering, and some are still in serious condition. The death toll may rise.
Despite the chaos outside, the celebration inside the stadium continued. The stadium was full of cheering fans as the RCB players were honoured.
There are still questions about who is responsible for the poor crowd management that led to this tragic event.
An early comment from an RCB spokesperson upset many people online. The spokesperson said fans had waited 18 years for this moment and asked for empathy for their emotions. Many thought the response was insensitive.
Later, RCB released an official statement saying:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incidents reported in the media about the large crowds in Bengaluru. The safety and well-being of everyone is most important to us. RCB mourns the loss of lives and sends heartfelt condolences to the families affected.”
This tragedy has shocked the cricket community and raised concerns about safety at large public events.
